Houston Texans • New England Patriots • Indianapolis Colts

Hauston Texans : Win and they are in. AFC South outright.

The task is simple for the Houston Texans: Win and they’re in. They win the AFC South outright because the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans are each six-loss teams and the worst Houston could finish would be with five. However, the Texans have loftier goals than to just pile up their fifth division crown in franchise history. Here is how they can secure a first-round bye in Week 16.
Again, it cannot be stressed enough, Houston has to beat the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field. The Texans will be unable to clinch if they drop the game to a club that they currently have a 0-4 all-time record against. What it would do, worst case scenario, is allow the New England Patriots to take back the No. 2 seed due to their tiebreaker earned in Week 1’s 27-20 win at Gillette Stadium.
Having said that, New England must also lose. If the Texans win, they will be at 11-4 while the Patriots are 9-6. It would be impossible in Week 17 for the Texans to relinquish their lead over New England, even with a loss, because Houston would finish a game ahead of the Patriots.
So who does New England have in Week 16? Try the Buffalo Bills at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time at Gillette Stadium. Buffalo played New England close in the initial encounter, a Monday nighter at New Era Field on Oct. 29, with the Patriots possessing a 12-6 lead until about 10:00 in the fourth quarter. After that, the Patriots peeled off 13 points to establish a 25-6 final score.
It may not happen in Week 16, but the scenario is out there. If the Texans beat the Eagles, then the scenario in Week 17 will feature Houston clinching the No. 2 seed with either a win of their own or a Patriots loss.
